I have a lot of Internet marketing tools in my toolbox. However, I have found that it is periodically necessary to kill off some of the tools just to keep my box fresh and full of things that actually do help me meet my business goals. Here’s my checklist for spotting and killing off resource sucking and valueless Internet marketing tools:
- Check out the last time you used the tool. If I’ve got anything in my Internet marketing toolkit that I haven’t used in three months, I don’t know what it does, I don’t understand how to use it, or I don’t really need it. Either way, out it goes!
- Look at your returns on investment. If you are expecting the tool to do something and it’s not, kick it to the curb and go looking for something else.
- Accept no bugs. If I’ve added a plug in or widget that is causing errors in my system, it has to go. I don’t care what it promises. If the darn thing gums up my sales page, crashes my analytics, or ruins my graphics when it’s not supposed to do so, it’s out. Tools need to work properly, or hit the road!
